Hyderabad: Cyberabad police arrested Arshad Jalauddin (45) under Section 376 of IPC. A fake godman, who was accused of rape in a complaint filed in 2018, has been absconding for the last two years.
The accused, Arshad, a resident of Rein Bazar, was originally from Karnataka and was cheating people in Hyderabad in the name of curing any illness with help of prayers and magic, said the police.
In 2018, a victim of the Baba had approached the police. She was living with her husband and had given birth to a child. Meanwhile, the victim had fallen sick and even after medical treatment, she was not recovering and hence, she and her husband had approached Arshad, seeking improvement in her health condition.
Taking advantage of this, the fake godman, in the name of a ritual, reached the woman's house at midnight. He then took her into a closed room and sexually assaulted her, after intoxicating her. After regaining senses, she lodged a complaint with the police after two days.
"We have been trying to catch hold of him since last two years. He has been on the run and was frequently changing names and get-ups. On information, when we reached the place, he, along with his family, was absconding and since then, have been frequently changing places from one house to other. On credible information, the police rounded the accused at Chennapatna village, 60 km from Bengaluru, where . he is now living in a rented house. We are trying to get more information from him and the investigation is on," added SHO G. Suresh, Rajendranagar PS.
