Fearing COVID, 60-year-old jumps to death in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 60-year-old man committed suicide over fears of being infected by COVID-19 at Ramanthapur in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Identified as V Krishnamurthy, he allegedly jumped from his flat and ended his life, police said.

According to sources, Krishnamurthy was residing at flat no 303 at VS apartments in Ramanthapur. For the past few weeks, he was suffering from gastric related issues and breathing problems.

Since the COVID pandemic broke out, he believed that the breathing problem was due to the virus. This pushed him into depression.

His family got him tested at the Government hospital at King Koti, where his reports came back negative. Even after the results, he continued to reel under depression. Since his situation was getting worse, his family members planned to take him to Gandhi hospital on Saturday.

As they were making arrangements, he jumped from the flat and ended his life. He received multiple injuries on the head and died on the spot. Uppal police are investigating.
