Fed up with harassment, 28 YO transwoman immolate herself at Hi-Tech city

Hyderabad: A transwoman immolated herself after she was allegedly harassed by a rival transgender group at Hi-Tech city railway station on Sunday.

Identified as Hamsa, she poured kerosene and set herself afire. The incident occurred on Sunday. She received 99 percent burns and was shifted to Osmania Hospital. However, she succumbed on Tuesday.

Police said she took the extreme step after was harassed by a rival transgender.

"We received a call on 100 about an attempt to suicide. Our patrol car reached the place and found her severely injured. The person who called us revealed that another transgender group harassed her. Later she poured kerosene and set herself on fire. It happened right in front of the witness who was passing by. She also gave a statement in the hospital stating that she committed suicide after the harassment," said SHO, Madhapur Police Station.

Hari Prasad alias Hamsa, 28, hailed from Avanti Nagar, Erragadda. She was presently putting up at Chandanagar. Over the past few days, she has been at odds with some other transgender group

Police said that they are also investigating whether somebody might have set her on fire.

"We have filed a case of abetment to suicide," said Madhapur police
