Hyderabad: India is witnessing massive protests all over the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

It has been intense that celebrities from diverse fields not only lamented on Twitter but also participated in the protests.

Kollywood actor Siddarth was spotted at Vallur Kottam, Chennai. He told the media that CAA gives the government powers to prosecute people based on religion. Eminent historian Ramchandra Guha was detained along with 200 other protestors in Bangalore.

Mumbai witnessed massive protests at August Kranti Maidan. Around 20,000 people gathered to protest against CAA. Actors Farhan Akhtar, Huma Qureshi, Sushant Singh Rajput and Swara Bhasker joined the protest. Swara Bhaskar, while interacting with the media, said, “The government needs to listen to the public that has elected it. If every part of Indian society is revolting against the CAA, then the government has to take cognizance instead of inflicting curfews, lathi charges and restricting phone services.”

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra joined the protest, while Anurag Kashyap said “We are lucky to be in a State where they (the BJP) aren’t in power.”

Other celebrities who took a clear stand about the CAA are Malayalam actors Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Tovino Thomas, Bollywood actor Dia Mirza, Vishal Dadlani and singer Sona Mohapatra.
