Filmmaker tonsures 20YO Dalit domestic help for quitting job at Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Shock and anger have gripped Vizag city after a cine director tonsured 20- year-old Dalit domestic help for quitting a job at Sujathanagar under Pendurthi police station limits.

Identified as K Srikanth, he was working as a domestic help at the residence of filmmaker Nutan Naidu for the last four months. On August 1, Srikanth resigned from the job.

Angered by the sudden resignation, Nutan Naidu's family called up Srikanth and asked him to come home for discussing the theft of a mobile phone.

“I went to Nutan Naidu's home on August 28 and clearly told him that I didn't steal the mobile phone. I told him to lodge a police complaint. But family members and staff of Nutan Naidu attacked me after branding me a thief,” said Srikanth.

Later they phoned a barber and got my head and mustache shaved, said Srikanth.

The pictures of tonsured Srikanth with injury on the scalp were uploaded on social media. Later the victim along with representatives of various Dalit organizations lodged a police complaint at Pendurthi police station.

Police said that they will verify the facts and register a case.

It may be recalled that Dalit youth I Varaprasad was tonsured by a police sub-inspector on July 19 in Vedulapalli village of Sitanagaram Mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district.
