Finalise alternate road to Gough Road: Defence authorities tell GHMC

Secunderabad: The Defence authorities have requested the GHMC to expedite the process to construct an alternate road to Gough Road in view of the inconvenience faced by the residents of north and north-eastern parts of Hyderabad. The defence officials are scheduled to meet the GHMC commissioner on 26 September and discuss the issue.

The Defence authorities have requested the state government to freeze the requirements of defence land so that the case can be suitably considered by the ministry of defense for the benefit of citizens of Hyderabad.

According to the authorities, the GHMC's requirements have varied over a period of time due to which they have been unable to consider the case. Lack of urgency on the part of the GHMC officials to implement the directions of the Telangana High Court passed in 2014 has inconvenienced the residents by way of denying the use of alternate roads, the defence officials said.

The authorities also claimed that it has been urging the state government to finalise the requirements of defence land and forward the proposal to the ministry of defence. A joint survey conducted along with the revenue authorities to finalise the land requirements has been completed at the behest of the defence authorities.

The defence authorities are hopeful that the state government will be able to construct the alternate road to Gough Road which has been delayed by over six years despite the High Court's direction to the state government on the same in 2014.
