Fire breaks out at tyre godown in Vanasthalipuram

Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at a tyre godown at Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad on Sunday night. As the fire was massive, officials were forced to evacuate residents from the surrounding areas of the godown. However, no casualties were reported as the godown was closed on the account of Diwali. On any other day, there would have been at least ten workers inside the unit, at the time of the incident.

According to officials, around 11 pm on Sunday, the fire broke out in the unit located at Auto Nagar at Vanasthalipuram. The fire department and police were immediately alerted by the residents. Soon fire tenders, GHMC's Disaster Response Force(DRF) and police rushed to the spot and began fire controlling operations. But the fire could not be controlled and spread all over the unit.

“Even after three tenders pressed into action, the fire could not brought under control, as the godown was containing around 6000 tyres. With the deployment of JCBs and Hitachi Machinery the structure was razed to ground and the fire then came under control," said Mr. Vishwajit Kampati - Director Of Enforcement,Vigilance & Disaster Management, GHMC.

The authorities were forced to evacuate inmates in neighboring houses till the flames were brought under control.

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said there is a massive blaze in the godown and teams worked for hours to doze off the fire. Though the situation is under control, it will take a couple of hours at least to douse the fire completely. Evacuating residents from the area is just a precautionary measure, and there is nothing to panic about it, he said.
