Five children drowned in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday

Kurnool/Prakasam: The fun for swimming claimed the lives of five children in Kurnool and Prakasam districts of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. In the first incident, three children drowned in a muddy pond at Belum Singavaram village under Kolimigundla mandal in Kurnool district on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as K. Vamsi (7), B. Lokesh (8) and Yasmin (4).

According to the police, the three children had gone out for playing in the morning hours on Sunday. When they did not come back till 11 am, the families and local residents searched them and they were found in a muddy pond near a farm field. Though they were rushed to a hospital, the doctors declared them brought dead. The locals said that the trio might have entered into the muddy pond for a splash to beat the heat and drowned.

In another incident, two children drowned in a water-filled pit at Duggireddipalem village under Marripudi mandal, Prakasam district, on Sunday morning. The victims have been identified as Manikanta (13) and Balamanikanta (9). The duo ventured into the water pit for swimming and they drowned in the pit.

Police said that they have retrieved the bodies from the pit and shifted to government hospitals for post-mortem. The bodies would be handed over to the families after autopsy.
