Former PM Manmohan Singh files nomination for RajyaSabha in Jaipur

Hyderabad: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh filed nomination for Rajyasabha seat from Rajasthan as Congress candidate in Jaipur on Tuesday. Manmohan Singh filed nomination for the seat which fell vacant after the death of state BJP president Madan Lal.

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot were also present during nomination. Manmohan Singh has represented Assam in Rajya Sabha for 28 years.

He was received at the airport by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy CM Sachin Pilot on Tuesday morning.

Mr Ashok Gehlot, CM Rajasthan on Tuesday morning tweeted that former PM Manmohan singh will be filing nomination from Jaipur today, "Heartiest welcome to former PM Dr. #ManmohanSingh ji in #Jaipur…he will be filing nomination for #RajyaSabha today".

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president Sachin Pilot tweeted, "The party has decided to nominate former PM Manmohan Singh from Rajasthan for Rajyasabha seat. I heartly congratulate you on behalf of the state,"

The Congress party has the majority in state assembly and two seats among the 200 seats in Rajasthan assembly are vacant.

The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the election of the Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan. The last date for the filing of nomination papers is August 14. Scrutiny of papers will be done on August 16.
