Four arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs. 1.38 crores in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad, arrested four persons for smuggling gold on 25 February. The intelligence officials, acting on a tip-off, arrested the four along the Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway and seized gold worth Rs. 1.38 crores.

The officials mounted surveillance at Raiakal toll plaza. They first intercepted a man carrying gold in a private bus. Later, they found three others travelling in a private car. None of then could produce documents for the gold. The four admitted that they were carrying the gold in exchange for money. The officials arrested the four and seized 31 gold bars weighing 3099 grams under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

On 22 February, Hyderabad custom officials had arrested two persons and seized gold valued at Rs. 15.56 lakhs carried in paste forms and two gold bangles worth Rs. 9.40 lakhs. The men were smuggling the gold from Doha and Riyadh.
