Four cops attached to district headquarters for thrashing youth in Rajanna Sircilla

Sircilla: Following the viral video of the Rajanna Sircilla police thrashing New Year revellers, four policemen have been attached to the district headquarters as punishment on Thursday. The policemen include two Sub Inspectors — Sudhakar and Ramesh — a Constable, and a Home Guard. Officers are conducting an enquiry on the incident.

During New Year celebrations on Wednesday, a few people videotaped Rajanna Sircilla police thrashing youngsters. However, the fact remains that the young lads were creating nuisance on the Karimnagar-Sircilla road.

According to the police, the boys were breaking beer bottles on the roads. They had blunt weapons, including knives, chains, and rods. They fought with some people at a nearby petrol pump and threatened to break into an ATM.

The police who were patrolling in the area used violent measures to control the situation. The police slapped, kicked and thrashed the youth with sticks. Speaking to NewsMeter, Rajanna Sircilla SP Rahul Hedge said, “The police used disproportionate force to take control of the situation.” The video showing the cops thrashing the youngsters, which was taken by some local people, has invited the wrath of citizens. It also raised questions on the friendly nature of the police.

Earlier, on December 21, Hyderabad Police was accused of thrashing nine youth including a minor in Bowenpally.
