Fourth international evacuation flight lands in Hyderabad with 331 Indians

Hyderabad: The fourth Vande Bharat Evacuation flight Air India - AI 1839 from UK via New Delhi landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad with 331 passengers in the wee hours of Tuesday morning at 02:21 AM. The same flight ferried passengers back from Hyderabad to the US, via Delhi. It departed from RGIA at 05:31 AM with 87 passengers.

“Hyderabad International Airport handled its fourth Vande Bharat Evacuation flight Air India - AI 1839 from UK-DEL-HYD, landed on 12th May, 2020 at 02:21 AM (Morning) with 331 passemgers.” said an official release from GMR.

An Air India flight AI 1921 from Abu Dhabi, with nearly 150 passengers on board, had arrived at the Hyderabad airport on Monday night. This was the third of the seven flights that will fly passengers from different countries to Hyderabad, as part of the Vande Bharat Mission.

Three days ago, a flight from Kuwait, with 163 passengers on board, landed at the airport, most of whom were migrant workers. There were also two infants in the flight.

On Thursday morning, a special flight from the USA landed at Hyderabad. Flight AI 1617 with 118 passengers flew via Mumbai.

In one of the largest evacuation exercises named “Vande Bharat Mission“, the government has announced to operate 64 flights, between May 7 and 13, to bring home nearly 14,800 Indian nationals stranded abroad due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Out of the 64 flights, Telangana will receive seven flights, two each from the USA and one each from Kuwait, UK, UAE, Philippines and Malaysia.
