Gandhi Hospital error: Wrong body handed over to family from Begumpet

Hyderabad: Gandhi Hospital has landed itself in a fresh controversy after the hospital sent the wrong body for cremation on 9 June. The patient's family members noticed the mistake and allegedly assaulted the doctors.

Two days ago, the hospital had sparked a controversy after the death of journalist Manoj Kumar.

A 48-year-old COVID-19 patient from Begumpet was admitted to Gandhi Hospital a few days ago. He died on Tuesday. His family members were informed and his body was taken for cremation. When the family arrived at the graveyard, they saw that it was somebody else’s body. When they questioned the staff who had accompanied the body, an argument broke out, following which the family allegedly assaulted the staff.

While family members claimed that Gandhi staff had swapped body of the person from their family with another body, officials denied the claims. After completing all the procedures at the hospital, initially his relatives went to identify the body and informed officials that the body does not belong to their person and the body was sent back to Gandhi hospital. However his wife and other family members went to hospital and identified the same body as that of their family member and confirmed it. Later the body was shifted again to the graveyard and cremated.

There have been several incidents of relatives of COVID-19 patients attacking doctors and staff of Gandhi Hospital. Security was beefed up and armed personnel deployed at the hospital following these incidents.
