Hajipur judgement postponed to Feb 6

Hyderabad, Jan 27: The final judgement in the sensational Hajipur triple rape and murder case, which was expected to be delivered on Monday, has been postponed to February 6.The villagers, including victims' family members, who have been anxiously waiting for the verdict, expressed disappointed. Police had arrested Srinivas Reddy for allegedly offering rides to three minor girls before raping and killing them. The 33-year-old crane operator is also accused of dumping the bodies in wells at Hajipur village of Yadadri Bhongir district of Telangana.

The fast-track court has taken up the case for a lengthy three-month trial. The testimony of nearly 101 witnesses was recorded. The public prosecutor presented strong evidence that the accused would be sentenced to death, which is a forensic report. The villagers are also demanding capital punishment.

During the final hearing, the alleged serial killer had claimed in court that he is impotent and had been framed by the police.

The crimes came to light after the discovery of the body of a 14-year-old missing girl in an agricultural well in the farm of the accused. Inquiries led the police to the body of another 17-year-old girl, who too had been missing for two months. In police custody, Srinivasa Reddy admitted to kidnapping, raping and killing a 12-year-old girl in 2015 when she had come to visit a relative at Hajipur.
