Harassed for dowry, 5-month pregnant techie ends life in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A pregnant techie ended her life in Hyderabad’s Jagathgirigutta on 21 October following harassment from her husband and in-laws over dowry. Krishna Priya was in the fifth month of her pregnancy.
According to the Jagathgirigutta police, Krishna Priya married Sravan Kumar in June this year and the couple lived at Papireddy Nagar in Jagathgirigutta along with Sravan’s parents. Krishna Priya worked as a software engineer in Hitech city and Sravan was a businessman.
During their marriage, Krishna Priya’s parents gave Rs. 5 lakh cash and other household articles as dowry. But after she became pregnant, Sravan and his parents told her parents they could take her home to deliver the child only if they gave more gold. Further, they also demanded Rs. 12 lakh,
There were frequent quarrels in the family over this. On Wednesday night, Krishna Priya died by suicide at their home. Her parents alleged that Sravan and his parents had killed her and made it look like a suicide.
The Jagathgirigutta police have registered a case of dowry death and started an investigation. Sravan and his parents have also been detained for further investigation.
