HC objects to Amitabh Bachchan being made party in Sye Raa case

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday made an exception for Amitabh Bachchan, who was made a party in the Writ Petition filed by the family members/legal heirs of freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narsimha Reddy against producers of Tollywood megastar, Chiranjeevi's 'SyeRaa'. It directed the petitioner to amend the petition by removing Amitabh Bachchan as a respondent.

Justice A Rajashekar Reddy gave this direction while hearing the Writ Petition filed by Doravari Dastagiri Reddy and four others, who claim themselves as family members/legal heirs of freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, alleging cheating by the producer who promised them a share of the film's earnings and seeking a direction to the CBFC to not issue the censor certificate to the biopic. The film is based on the life of Uyyala Narasimha Reddy, a freedom fighter from Uyyalawada village in Kurnool district. The petitioners detailed how Chiranjeevi and his son Ram Charan also had made promises and later reneged on them and how they are not even allowing the family members to meet with them.

When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, the judge, who perused the petition questioned the counsel for the petitioner as to why Amitabh Bachchan has been made a party in the Writ Petition as a respondent when there is no allegation or charge against him. He directed the counsel to amend the affidavit by removing Amitabh Bachchan as a respondent and will hear the case after that and accordingly adjourned the case to Thursday.

As is known, the highly anticipated biopic featuring megastar Chiranjeevi is mired in controversy, with the family members/legal heirs raising a hue and cry about not being paid royalty, and even filing a police complaint with the Jubilee Hills Police against actor Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. It is to be seen what twists this saga will take with the hearing at the High Court on Thursday.
