HC questions encroachments around Hussain Sagar lake, issues notices to GHMC

Hyderabad: Taking a serious view of the constructions being made in the area falling under full tank level (FTL) of Hussain Sagar, the High Court for the State of Telangana has directed the State Government to file a detailed counter affidavit in this regard. It also appointed senior advocate L. Ravichander as amicu curaie to assist the Court in this matter and asked him to visit the place where such constructions are being made and submit a report to the Court.

The Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A. Abhishek Reddy gave these directions on Wednesday while taking up the letter written by Socialist Party General Secretary Dr Lubna Sarwat to the Chief Justice about these constructions as a suo moto PIL. Dr Sarwat complained to the Chief Justice that BT roads are being laid in around 10 acres of land falling under the FTL of Hussain Sagar between Pillar No. A-279 and A-287. This was observed by them during their field visit to the area, which was covered by huge barricades and construction was taking place at a rapid pace. She sought action against the officials involved in flouting of the rules in taking up construction in the FTL area.

The Chief Justice converted this letter into suo moto PIL and took up for hearing on Wednesday. The Division Bench issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Areas Development, Commissioner GHMC, Commissioner HMDA, MD of HMWSSB, Member secretary Telangana Pollution Control Board, District Collector Hyderabad and posted the case to April 1st for further hearing.
