Helmet saves farmer but his daughter killed on Hyderabad-Warangal highway

Hyderabad: Wearing a helmet has saved the life of a farmer but killed his four-year-old daughter, in an accident at Ghatkesar on the city outskirts, on the busy Hyderabad Warangal National Highway- 163 on Saturday. The accident occurred when a container truck came to a sudden halt on the highway without any indications. As a result, the scooter on which the victims were travelling crashed into the rear portion of the truck. K Rekha(4) died on the spot, while her father K Govardhan sustained severe injuries in the incident.

Govardhan a farmer from Pallepahad village in Bhongir district, along with his daughter Rekha were on their way to Ghatkesar on their scooter. Rekha was standing in front of her father in the leg space.

When they reached Aushapur village at Ghatkesar, the driver of a container truck heading ahead in the same direction, stopped the vehicle suddenly on the road. As the truck driver did not switch on any indicators or took any precautions to alert other motorists, Govardhan could not notice his vehicle and crashed into the truck in the rear portion.

Rekha fell in the gap between the scooter and the truck and stuck in it and died on the spot, while Govardhan sustained injuries. Police registered a case on the truck driver and detained him for questioning.
