Husband kills wife with pestle at Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A petty quarrel between a couple forced the husband to kill his wife at Hydershakote, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, on Monday. Sunnala Shantaiah allegedly attacked his wife Sunnala Sridevi(30) with a pestle. The incident has left their three children including their two daughters orphaned.

According to police officials from Narsingi police station, under whose jurisdiction Hydershakote falls, the couple hailing from Kulkacherla in Vikarabad district had migrated to the city in search of their livelihood. They were hired to work at an apartment located at Sun city of Hydershakote. Shantaiah was working as a watchman, while Sridevi was working as a domestic help at the apartment.

On Monday morning, the couple started quarrelling over a petty issue, as their children looked on. As the argument became heated, Shantaiah became aggressive and picked up a pestle from their room and attacked his wife with it, hitting her head.

This left her with a severe head injury as she collapsed in a pool of her own blood. Shantaiah rushed her to a nearby private hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.

Informed by the hospital, police rushed to the hospital and shifted the body for a postmortem examination.

A murder case is registered against Shantaiah and he was detained for questioning. Further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, the children were handed over to their grandparents.
