Hyd-based journalist succumbs to Covid-19 at Gandhi Hospital

Hyderabad: A young journalist from Hyderabad who has been working with a local channel succumbed to Covid-19 on Sunday. The 33 year-old man was undergoing treatment in Gandhi Hospital June 4th. This morning, around 9:30 am, Gandhi superintendent Dr Rajarao declared him dead.

According to reports, the young journo is a professional weightlifter and recently underwent thymus gland surgery (the gland was removed) for Myasthenia gravis, a condition which paralyses all muscles, including those of the respiratory system.

He was found to have been suffering from Covid-19 with bilateral pneumonitis, ARDS.

Reportedly a week ago, he had gone for a get together in which 40 people participated, of whom a few of his friends are from Gujarat. He is suspected to have contracted the virus at this gathering.

He got married nine months ago and his family lives in Zaheerabad.

Meanwhile, six staffers working with an English news channel based in Hyderabad, were tested positive for COVID-19 on June 2nd. All five asymptomatic, reportedly came in contact with a cameraman who was tested positive earlier.

Previously, three cameramen and a senior journalist based in Hyderabad were also tested positive for Covid-19. Medical reports released on May 30 revealed that out of 40 national media journalists and cameramen tested for Coronavirus, four were positive.

According to the health officials, the four infected were asymptomatic. “They are in home isolation. Health officials are frequently visiting them to check their health condition accompanied with treatment,” said an official.

On May 28, 40 mediapersons, all belonging to national news channels and newspapers, were tested in Hyderabad.
