Hyd cops arrest Goshamahal man for illegally selling cough syrup to youth

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police arrested a person on 6 August for illegally selling medicines to minors and vagabonds without prescriptions and at high rates.

The sleuths of the commissioner’s task force and drug inspectors raided Agarwal’s Pharmacy at Darussalam, Goshamahal, and arrested Jayanth Agarwal.

They seized 90 bottles of Codimax cough syrup (Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Codeine Phosphate syrup) and 64 bottles of U-lintus Antitussive Cough Syrup (Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Codeine Phosphate syrup).

Jayanth was selling Codimax and U-lintus, scheduled prescription drugs, which is generally used to treat cough. These drugs can be dangerous if taken without medical assistance.

They are not to be sold without a prescription. Many minors are also addicted to drugs and use them to get high. This habit may lead them to pursue criminal activities, said the police.

Jayanth and the seized drugs were handed over to the SHO of the Begumbazar police station.
