Hyderabad court convicts techie for death of his wife over dowry harassment

Hyderabad: A city court convicted a Simhadri Bala Kishore, a techie, for his wife’s death over dowry harassment. The court sentenced the techie to seven years of imprisonment for the case registered at Chandanagar police station under Cyberabad commissionerate in Hyderabad. Madhapur DCP A Venkateswar Rao and Court Monitoring Cell of Women and Children Safety Wing of Cyberabad Commissionerate oversaw the trial proceedings.

Bala Kishore, a resident of Shivajinagar in Chandanagar, hails from Machilipatnam of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. He married Eesha Pani in April 2015, and during the marriage demanded Rs 50 lakh and other household articles in the form of dowry.

After their marriage, the couple stayed at Shivajinagar. After a few days, Eesha informed her parents that Bala Kishore was physically and mentally harassing her, demanding additional dowry of Rs 50 lakhs for settling in America. Her parents requested him not to harass her and told him that they would arrange Rs 25 lakhs as soon as possible. However, he did not change his attitude and continued harassing her.

Unable to bear the torture, Eesha committed suicide by hanging in her bedroom on June 21, 2015. Police registered a case under Section 304(B) of IPC, and relevant articles of the Dowry Prohibition Act at Chandanagar against Bala Kishore. Three days later, they arrested him and sent him to judicial custody. The then ACP of Madhapur Ramana Kumar investigated the case. Subsequently, a charge sheet was filed before the XV Additional District Judge Court at Kukatpally.
