Hyderabad cyber crime registers FIR against Meera Chopras harassers

Hyderabad: The Cyber crime wing of Hyderabad police have registered a case under section 67 of IT Act, against ‘unknown persons’ for allegedly harassing actress Meera Chopra on social media.

On June 2nd, a Twitter interaction of actress Meera Chopra with her fans went wrong when supporters of Jr. NTR issued rape threats prompting her to request police to take action against.

Meera, who rose to fame with Pawan Kalyan-starrer Bangaram, had invited her fans to ask questions on Twitter. One of the fans asked who her favorite Telugu actor was. Meera replied Mahesh Babu. This answer pricked Tollywood actor Junior NTR fans. A few tweets threatened her of gang-raping and murder. While few went on to the extent of cursing her parents of Covid-19.

The actress lodged a formal complaint with the Hyderabad police, NCW and cybercrime team and reported the abusive tweets.

In addition,The National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognizance of the matter."The issue has been taken up with the Telangana police.Chairperson of NCW Ms.Rekha Sharma has also asked B.Sumathi, DIG Women Safety Wing of Telangana police to send the Commission a status report on the issue,” the Commission tweeted in response to a tweet by the actor requesting action against the account holders.

The Cyber crime sleuths have also registered a case under section 506 (criminal intimidation) 509(Whoever intending to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian penal code.
