Hyderabad: Ex-Army doc stabs abusive husband to death

Hyderabad: A former Army doctor allegedly stabbed her abusive husband to death in Bandlaguda on the outskirts of the city.

Sabina Roshan, who was reportedly in an inebriated condition, stabbed her 42-year-old husband Vishal Diwan, a retired Army captain, in the chest with a knife and killed him. The police said Vishal was torturing and harassing the woman and her children.

According to the police, Sabina was earlier married to Bose. She had a daughter from that marriage. When the couple separated, Sabina took her daughter with her. In 2004, she married Vishal and the couple along with Sabina’s first daughter were living at Maple Villas, a gated community in Sun City in Bandlaguda village.

In 2008, the couple had a son. But a few years into the marriage, Vishal started harassing Sabina. He would often get drunk and assault her. Sabina told Vishal’s sisters about the abuse but they said it was a common thing in the family and that she should adjust and move on.

Sabina also found out that Vishal was physically and mentally harassing her teenage daughter. He was harassing their son, too. Whenever Sabina questioned him about his behavior towards his children, he would beat her up.

Over a month ago, the couple had a big fight and Vishal beat Sabina, injuring her spine. During the same time, she also tested positive for COVID-19. However, her husband refused to get her treatment and forced her to use homoeopathic medicine though she was unwilling.

On Saturday, a drunk Sabina confronted Vishal about his careless behaviour and mistreatment of his family. But he refused to answer her questions and instead went to sleep. Enraged by this, Sabina picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him in the chest. She immediately took him to the Continental Hospital in Gachibowli but the doctors declared him dead.

The Rajendranagar police have registered a case against Sabina and an investigation is underway.
