Hyderabad: Hotel Minerva Grand at Kondapur in Hyderabad has been slapped with a case after an IT professional accused it of charging him a higher MRP for soft drink.

Acting on an online complaint by Ram Biradar, the Legal Metrology Department inspected the business hotel and booked it on the charges of unfair trade practices.

Complainant Biradar, 27, said he discovered the alleged malpractice when he visited Grand Minerva with colleagues for lunch. "We ordered four Coke bottles and in the bill it was mentioned Rs 45 excluding GST, while the MRP on the bottle was Rs 25."When I questioned the staff they said this is how they have been charging," said Biradar, who lives in Uppal.

Under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, a seller cannot tamper with the MRP (maximum retail price) of a product. First-time violators face a maximum fine of Rs 25,000. For the second or subsequent offence, they can be jailed up to six months along with fine.
