Hyderabad Metro victim was all smiles hours before her tragic death

Hyderabad: Kantala Mounika who died in a freak incident at Ameerpet Metro station on Sunday evening was all smiles when she stepped out of her home at KPHB. Footages from CC cameras installed at SR homes apartment, where she along with her husband Harikanth, a techie, were residing, showed Mounika stepping out of the apartment lift along with her cousin Likhitha. The duo was leaving SR Nagar to search for a hostel for Likhitha. They were seen with smiles on their faces discussing something.

An hour later, she died in a freak incident while standing underneath the Ameerpet Metro station. Likhitha who accompanied Mounika said that after reaching the ground level, they waited for ten minutes as it was raining heavily. Suddenly a chunk fell from above and landed on Mounika's head.

"We were shouting for help but there was nobody, not even the metro staff. After 10 minutes of screaming for help, two persons helped us and shifted (Mounika) to the hospital, but it was already late and my sister had died," said Likitha.

Kodandaram Visits family:

TJS President, M Kodandaram visited Mounika's family at Gandhi hospital mortuary, where the postmortem examination was conducted on Mounika's body. He said that the incident exposed loopholes in the project construction. The metro rail authorities should take this incident seriously and conduct a thorough inspection to rectify any such damages.

"It is very sad that not even one person from the Metro Rail has visited the family. We tried contacting them but they're disconnecting our calls. We demand justice for the young woman who lost her life. An immediate compensation has to be given to the family," he demandedMeanwhile, SR Nagar police of Hyderabad city police registered a case under section 174 of CrPC after Monika's husband, Harikanth, filed a complaint and have begun investigations.
