"I warn all WhatsApp users not to forward any such provocative videos or pictures. Criminal cases will be booked if you forward such images," he informed.
It was found that mischief makers are circulating unrelated pictures and videos, they claim are from Jammu & Kashmir post the abrogation of article 370. The content circulated was found to be very old and from countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, which are conflict zones. The commissioner further stated that it has been reported that some mischief makers are trying to circulate provocative videos and pictures on social media particularly on WhatsApp.
The purpose of these actions is to create a law and order problem in the city of Hyderabad. They are using pictures and videos
of incidents which have nothing to do with our country. In the name of Kashmir, they are circulating old pictures of Iraq and Afghanistan. Hyderabad is developing very fast on the economic index in the last 5 years and some people are jealous of us, stated the police commissioner.
He also appealed to all citizens not to get carried away by such motivated and pre-planned conspiracy.
It may be noted that during early 2018, there were several incidents of MiB attacks and lynchings reported in different parts of the country after pictures and videos of people claiming to be part of child kidnapping gangs went viral on social media, including WhatsApp. Since then, the police and the government has made curbing fake news a top priority.
