Hyderabad techie jumps to death owing to bipolar disorder

Hyderabad: Hours after promising his wife that he would not commit suicide, a 35-year-old techie jumped to his death from a 24-storey building near his office at Gachibowli in Hyderabad. The victim, Palaparthi Raghuram was working for Infosys. His wife Palaparthi Sridevi also works for Infosys on the same campus. He was suffering from bipolar disorder.

Raghuram and Sridevi have been married for eight years and have a six-year-old daughter, Pragna. Raghuram was working as a team leader and Sridevi is a techie for the same company. For the past thirteen years, he had been suffering from bipolar disorder and was under medication for the same. His father Venkateswarlu is also bedridden due to age-related health complications.

On Sunday while at home, the couple had a discussion about Raghuram's suicidal tendencies as he was very upset with his current status. He had reportedly told her that he was not able to handle his issues and would commit suicide. But as Sridevi broke down, he promised that he would not take any such extreme step.

On Monday morning, the couple left for the office campus in the same vehicle. Around 10 am when Sridevi called him over the phone he said that he is going out for tea while she continued with her work.

Minutes later there was information that an employee of Infosys had committed suicide by jumping from a building that is located around 300 meters away from the campus.

Soon all the employees rushed to the spot. Sridevi was one among them. When she reached the spot she identified that the victim was her husband.

Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the suicide. Primary inquiries revealed that he took the extreme step due to health issues. However, all angles are being probed into.
