Hyderabad heaves sigh of relief as showers bring down mercury

Hyderabad: A sudden spell of rain on Tuesday night brought much-needed respite from the sweltering heat in Hyderabad. The showers were particularly concentrated in the western corridor, with Patancheru, BHEL, Miyapur, Beeramguda, Chandanagar, Hafeezpet, and surrounding areas. The weatherman has not released the rainfall data.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued proactive alerts on Tuesday after noticing the weather shift. The orange alert was issued at 4 pm on Tuesday. Later, the department issued a Yellow warning for Hyderabad and neighbouring districts.

“Light rain and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed less than 40kmph very likely to occur in Adilabad, Hyderabad, Jagitial, Medchal Malkajgiri, Nizambad, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Yaaadri Bhuvanagiri districts during the next 2-3 hours,” read the bulletin released at 7 pm on IMD.

In another bulletin, the IMD predicted more intense activity in Adilabad, Kamareddy, Medak, and Nizamabad, “Moderate rain and moderate thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed between 41-61kmph very likely to occur during the next 2-3 hours,” it said.

Officials attributed the sudden precipitation to atmospheric changes. “The trough from South Interior Karnataka to Marathwada at 0.9 km above mean sea level was a primary factor,” they said.

Additionally, a secondary trough extending from Gangetic West Bengal to North Coastal Andhra Pradesh had influenced the region, following isolated hailstorms in Sangareddy and Siddipet the previous day.

The IMD has forecast a normal weather pattern with no rainfall expected during the day. “Partly cloudy sky. Hazy conditions are very likely to prevail during morning/night hours,” the IMD said.

Maximum and minimum temperatures of Hyderabad City are expected to be around 33 degrees and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively.
