Hyderabad: A doctor’s self-immolation bid created ruckus at Gandhi Hospital Secunderabad on Tuesday. Dr Vasanth Kumar attempted to douse himself with petrol. However, he was rescued by police and hospital staff and sent to Chilkalguda police station.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad city police commissioner Anjani Kumar has announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to Chilkalguda Inspector AC Balanagi Reddy and his team for the timely rescue of Dr Vasanth that saved his life.

On Tuesday morning, he walked into the hospital premises and was found moving around suspiciously. Before anyone could realise, he was found with three cans of petrol with him. He emptied one of the cans on him in an attempt to set himself ablaze.

He raised slogans that he was targeted for his sincere efforts in fighting the Corona virus and questioned if that is the way a doctors is treated. Even as he raised slogans, he was rushed out of the hospital by police escorts.

Vasanth Kumar is accused of leaking information to media outlets and other organisations informing that two cases had tested positive a few days ago. As this news created panic among health circles and all over the city, the hospital authorities and Medical and Health department initiated action against Vasanth Kumar.

Dr Sravan Kumar, Superintendent Gandhi Hospital has earlier informed that there were several allegations against Dr Vasanth Kumar and cases also pending at Chilkalguda police station.

Dr Ramesh Reddy, Director of Medical Education Telangana, said that disciplinary proceedings have already been initiated against Dr Vasanth.
