Mystery shrouds IBM staffers suicide, Cyberabad police probe on

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police investigating the case of a 28-year-old IBM staffer Avakash Mahanta, whose body was found at Mullakatta lake in KPHB Colony of Hyderabad, on September 3, found that he had committed suicide by jumping into the lake. But what forced him to take this extreme step still remains a mystery.

With his family members being clueless and multiple investigations leading to no results, police are in a fix as to the reason behind his suicide. It is suspected that he could have jumped in the lake three days prior to the incident, police are however awaiting the postmortem report.

Police found that after leaving office on September 1, Mahanta met a friend at Jubilee hills where they had coffee. He then told his friend that he was going home and started for home on his bike. After this, he was not in touch with anybody, even his family members. His younger brother who also works as a techie, tried to reach Mahanta over the phone several times but was unsuccessful.

Further, they lodged a missing complaint at Madhapur police station, under whose jurisdiction limits his office falls.

Meanwhile, police found Mahanta's bike parked around 50 feet away from the lake where his body was found. Based on the bike and the identity card found in his pocket, police identified him. His mobile was also found in his pocket but as it was completely drenched in water, it was not in a working condition. Police then informed his family members who are residing at Dilsukhnagar in Hyderabad.

They also identified his body. Further, the police didn't find anything suspicious in his call data records or on his social media accounts. His brother checked his laptop to check if there were any suspicious emails, but that was also found to be clear. Inquiries at his office and with his colleagues also didn't reveal anything about the reason behind the suicide.

Though primary investigation and circumstantial evidence point to a suicide, the reason behind suicide continues to be a mystery.
