IMD predicts thunderstorms, rains for Telangana

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), in its weather forecast on 20 July, predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in isolated places of Telangana. Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, it will be a cloudy day. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers will hit some parts of the city.

Heavy rains very likely to occur in isolated places of the state like Adilabad, Nirmal, Komaram Bheem, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Rajanna Siricilla, Sangareddy, Medak, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Narayanpet, Mahabub Nagar, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Medchal Malkajgiri, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Nalgonda, it said.

Mahesh Palawat, the head of Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, said, “Rain and thunderstorms will hit Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. The northern part of Telangana will be affected for the next 24 hours. The southern part of the state will see less rainfall. After 24 hours, rain will decrease. A south-eastern wind from the Bay of Bengal and south-western wind from the Arabian sea will influence the weather.”

The IMD’s weather inference for 20 July read, “The north-­south trough from the north interior of Karnataka to south Tamil Nadu now runs from Marathwada to north interior Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.”
