India under Complete lockdown for 21 days, only solution to fight COVID-19: Modi

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared a 21-day shutdown from 24 March midnight to 14 April. “Please forget about going out in these 21 days. Stay inside your houses. One step outside your house can bring Corona inside your house,” Mr Modi said.

The government is sanctioning Rs. 15,000 crores to develop health infrastructure and to train medical and para-medical staff. “According to a WHO report, one person infected with the disease can infect almost a thousand others. Another report says Corona virus infected one lakh people in 67 days but for the count to touch two lakhs it took 11 days and in the next four days it had already infected three lakh people in the world,” Mr Modi said.

Many countries like Italy, Iran, France, Spain, and Iran have declared a lockdown. People from these countries followed the direction of the government, so now they are slowly recovering, the Prime Minister said, urging Indians to do the same thing. “Experts say the only solution to fight Corona virus is social distancing. We have to stop the spreading cycle. Some are thinking that social distancing is for patients only but it is for all, even for the Prime Minister. If we don’t follow social distancing India will suffer,” he said.

Mr Modi asked people to support the medical staff and people who are working to clean neighbourhoods amid the pandemic. He said government officials are working day in and day out to control the outbreak.

Many states are under lockdown for the past two days. As of 24 March, the total number of Corona-positive cases in the country has reached 539 with the most number of cases reported in Maharashtra followed by Kerala.
