Coronavirus: Indian Railways relaxes refund rules for PRS counter generated tickets

Hyderabad: The Indian Railways on Saturday relaxed the refund rules for Passenger Reservation System (PRS) or Railway Reservation counter generated tickets, in order to further facilitate Rail passengers in availing facility of refund of tickets in the wake of COVID-19, to avoid crowding at railway stations and to observe social distancing in railway premises.

The relaxation is for a period of three months with journey period commencing from 21st March - 21st June 2020.

For trains cancelled by Railways with journey period from 21st March to 21st June

  • Passengers can get refund across counter on submission of Ticket up to three months from the date of journey. ( Instead of the extant rules of 3 days excluding the day of journey )

For passengers who do not want to travel from March 21 to June 21 with the trains not being cancelled

  • Passengers can file TDR ( Ticket Deposit Receipt ) within 3 months from the date of journey at the station. ( Instead of extant rule of 3 days )
  • Passengers can submit the TDR to Chief Claims officer ( CCO)/ Chief Commercial Manager ( CCM ) claims office for getting the refund within 60 days if filing of TDR subject to verification from Train Chart. ( Instead of extant rule of 10 days )
  • For Passengers who want to cancel the ticket through "139" can get refund across the counter within 3 months from the date of journey. (Instead of extant rule of up to scheduled departure of the train.)
