Hyderabad: India’s nuclear programme has come a long way. From importing bulletproof jackets once, now, India exports bulletproof jackets to over 100 countries.

The jackets have been named in honour of Dr Homi Jahangir Bhabha, the father of India's nuclear programme.

The feat of making bulletproof jackets was achieved by the nuclear scientists of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre at Mumbai.

The process involved developing boron carbide pipes for their pressurised heavy water plants to produce electricity from atomic energy.

Later, they used this material and some other homegrown technologies to create India's own bulletproof jacket which has been named as ‘Bhabha Kawach’ in honour of Dr Homi Jehangir Bhabha.
