Indira Park shut, security beefed up in Hyderabad following protest call by MRPS

Hyderabad: Security across Hyderabad has been beefed up on Sunday following a "Maha Deeksha" protest call by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi at Indira Park in support of the TSRTC striking employees.

Indira Park was closed down in the morning and will remain so till 6 pm, while the police have imposed traffic restrictions for motorists in surrounding areas and on the roads leading to the park.

Earlier, the police had denied permission for the protest, citing law and order issues. On Sunday, MRPS national president Manda Krishna Madiga was detained outside his residence when he tried to go to Indira Park. Several MRPS leaders and members of people's organisations have also been detained all over the city.

RTC joint action committee (JAC) convenor Ashwathama Reddy and a few TSRTC female employees are sitting on a protest at his home since Saturday. Sources said they are concerned about the health of Reddy as the protesters have locked themselves in the house, said sources.

City police chief Anjani Kumar visited Indira Park and monitored security arrangements. Sources said the police are taking extra care after the Chali Tank Bund protest turned violent last week.
