Inter-Ministerial Central Team to conduct an assessment of flood situation in affected States
By Newsmeter Network Published on 24 Aug 2019 12:32 PM GMTHyderabad: The Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to visit the States of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala affected by recent floods.
The IMCT for Karnataka state led by the Joint Secretary Ministry of Home Affairs Mr Prakash visited Karnataka on Saturday to get the first-hand on-the-spot assessment of damages caused and relief work carried out by the state administration.
Till now, the IMCTs used to visit the affected states only once after the receipt of a memorandum from the concerned affected State. But from now on IMCT will visit the state after submission of the Memorandum for a detailed assessment of the damages and relief operations conducted for making final recommendations for allocation of additional funds.
In the year 2019, six states such as Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh reported being affected by the flood so far. As many as 251 people have died and over 20 people are missing in northern Indian states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Maharashtra, with several thousand evacuated.
