Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday extended the suspension of IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao by four months.

A 1989 batch IPS officer, AB Venkateshwara Rao was suspended in February 2020 for allegedly violating All India Services (AIS) Rules.

Considered as staunch TDP supporter, Roa served as Additional DG (CID) and Director-General (Intelligence). He was not given any posting after YSR Congress Party came to power.

The IPS officer had allegedly leaked critical information to the Israel-based defense manufacturing company, RT Inflatables Private Limited. Sources said he had flouted the procedures to award a contract to the firm.

Anti Corruption Bureau of Andhra Pradesh submitted an interim report to the government recommending continuation of Rao's suspension till completion of the inquiry.

The AP government on Tuesday issued formal orders extending his suspension till July 5, 2020, or till further orders whichever is earlier.
