Hyderabad: Nine persons, arrested by the National Investigation Agency(NIA) including three from Hyderabad in 2016, were convicted by the Special Court for NIA cases at Patiala House Courts Complex in New Delhi on Saturday, in connection with a ISIS conspiracy case.

In August 2020, six persons were convicted in the same case. In January 2016, the NIA arrested 19 people from different parts of the country, as part of the nationwide crackdown on the ISIS terror module and those working for the organisation in different parts of the country and engaged in recruiting Muslim youth for ISIS, through different social media platforms. The quantum of the punishment would be pronounced on September 22.

This case was the first of its kind in which these ISIS terrorists had conspired to carry out terrorist acts in various parts of the country. The evidence on record proved with regard to their conspiracy meetings in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Lucknow.
