Nellore: A local student, who returned from Italy after completing his studies, has been quarantined in the Government General Hospital after he complained of dry cough.

During screening at Chennai airport, he was tested negative for coronavirus. However, as a precautionary measure, health officials asked him to remain in the home quarantine for three days.

After he complained of dry cough, he was admitted to the isolation ward at the GGH late on Monday. District Medical and Health Officer Dr G Rajya Lakshmi said they had sent the swab to SVIMS, Tirupati, which is the Nodal Centre for coronavirus testing in AP.

Around 19 people, who were quarantined at home from February 1 and 4, have been asked to move normally. Still, 15 persons are under observation.

Dr Lakshmi said they have been focusing on the people who are returning from the coronavirus affected countries. She said the window period for the virus is 14 days, but they have been quarantining suspects for 28 days as a precautionary measure. She confirmed that no positive case has been reported from the district so far.
