Kid cries as he watches father get beaten, Wanaparthy SP apologises

Hyderabad: Repeated instructions from the Police department and bosses to refrain from using force on citizens during the lockdown, does not seem to have any effect on the field staff. These staff who are at the forefront are repeatedly found using force on people.

In yet another incident in Wanaparthy district, the patrolling team was found assaulting a man, who was moving out on his bike during the lock down. The man was accompanied by his children. The man was intercepted and he was assaulted by the police team. A video of the incident which went viral shows while the man was being assaulted, his children were pleading with the police men, to not beat their father. In response, the police men are heard abusing the children and even calling them names.

As the incident attracted criticism from various corners, police department initiated damage control measures.

Superintendent of Police Wanaparthy Apoorva Rao issued an apology

"We appoligise to public for such behaviour by an on-duty constable. This incident has been enquired into and strict disciplinary action has been initiated on the person responsible. We will ensure that such incidents do not repeat." a statement on the SP's twitter handle read.

On April 1, another video of an officer announcing on a PA system about new Corona treatment started by police at Wanaparthy went viral. The officer who was later identified as DSP Wanaparthy, is heard warning people about the new treatment. Explaining about the treatment, he says that instructions have already been given to Circle Inspectors and sub inspectors. Specially made canes with nail endings are arranged and anybody seen violating the lock down, playing cricket, playing cards or indulging in any form of violation will be treated with these sticks. When used, these canes will rip off flesh from their buttocks ans people will not be able to step out at least for two months.

In another similar incident, cops had caught three persons playing cards in their home and thrashed them, even as their wife and children were looking on. When the women tried to intervene, police abused them and chased away. Further when the men were pleading, police made them bend on the ground. While one of them stepped on their palms so that they don't move, another police man was seen thrashing the men.

These incidents have drawn severe criticism from people against the cops, who under the guise of lockdown enforcement are unleashing violence on common public.
