Kodelas son Sivarama Krishna surrenders before court

Visakhapatnam: Former Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasad Rao's son Kodela Sivarama Krishna surrendered before the First Additional Munsif Magistrate Court in connection with various cases registered against them in Narasaraopet of Guntur district on Tuesday. The court subsequently granted him anticipatory bail.

It may be recalled that AP High Court on August 31 had directed both of them to surrender in cases registered against them by a group of people. In the complaint, the people alleged that the duo had exploited and harassed them during the TDP regime between 2014 and 2019.

The police also registered cases against Kodela and his son on August 25 this year for diverting the furniture in AP Assembly to unauthorised premises. Though the father and son approached the court for the bail, AP High Court has rejected the petition.

Upset over the series of events in his life, Kodela committed suicide in his home in Hyderabad on September 16. TDP leaders alleged that YSR Congress government was responsible for his death, citing that the current government harassed Kodela and his family members. However, YSRC leaders denied the allegations.

Kodela admitted that while shifting the Assembly furniture and equipment to Amaravati from Hyderabad in 2016, some of it was taken to his office-cum-residence in Sattenapalli. He justified that it was done because the furniture could have gotten spoilt in the temporary assembly building.

Additionally, YSRC leaders had alleged that Kodela had diverted the furniture to a private showroom belonging to Sivaram Krishna.
