KTR launches Green Space Index ranking for urban local bodies

Hyderabad: Telangana's minister for municipal administration and urban development, K.T Rama Rao, announced a new initiative, the Green Space Index ranking, to increase green cover in the state.

On 30 August, he tweeted, “Announcing a new initiative; the Green Space Index (GSI) rankings for all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Telangana to promote a sense of competition among towns/cities which will help increase the much needed green cover under #HaritaHaaram”



He also said that the best performing urban local bodies will receive an award on Telangana formation day. “Each year, the best performing ULBs will be awarded on Telangana formation day under this initiative. Development of parks, urban lung spaces, avenue plantation, Nurseries & creative greening initiatives will be given priority,” he said.

“Awards will be given in categories such as Municipality with highest Green Space, Best avenue plantation, Best Per Capita Green Space etc. Welcome ideas from all citizens on making this initiative a success,” he said in his tweet.
