Locals claim Vizag youth roasted, chewed human skull, cops say otherwise

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag police, on 16 August, took a 20-year-old youth from the city's Relli Veedhi area into custody after he was found in possession of a human skull. Some local people claimed they saw the youth, Ravulapudi Raju, roasting and chewing parts of the skull. However, the police have dismissed such claims. The police also found a minor girl living in the youth's house.

A local resident found a skull inside a bag near Raju's house on Sunday. Suspecting it to be the handiwork his neighbour, he pulled up Raju and asked him about it. Raju then put the skull inside the bag and dragged it into his house. The local resident raised an alarm and the One Town police led by V. Chandrasekhar rushed to the spot and took the youth into custody.

According to the police, Raju's father had passed away a few years ago and his mother had left him. The youth, who works at the cremation ground, was addicted to ganja and liquor. The cops said his mental condition was fragile probably due to the drugs.

A police officer said Raju's answers were incoherent and suspected he either stole the preserved skull from the anatomy department of Andhra Medical College or the cremation ground. He said Raju and the minor girl were taken into custody for further questioning. The police will visit the anatomy department of Andhra Medical College.
