LOCKDOWN: Jagan shuts Andhra till March 31 to fight Corona

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday announced a total lockdown till March 31 in the State.

He said,"All public transport services are to be stopped. Only essential transport services will be allowed. All government offices will be closed. The Government will run only with skeletal staff. All non-essential commercial shops shall be closed."

The chief minister for Andhra Pradesh also announced that for the poor, the government will give ration and one KG bengal gram and Rs 1000 for each family. "We are spending around Rs 1500 crore for this," he said.

Jaganmohan Reddy said,"All foreign returnees shall stay-at-home quarantine. All interstate borders will be closed. Police are asked to maintain beat vigilance system and tab on the foreign returnees."

The Andhra chief minister further added,"More than ten people will not gather. The only exception is for Legislative Assembly session as we have to pass the budget."

He said, "Farmers also shall avoid going to fields, but if it is important they can go but maintain distance."

Andhra Chief Minister Jagan Reddy said if any trader or vendor hikes essential commodities act they will be jailed. "Collectors will notify the rates and all sellers should follow it."

The state government will come with modalities on the lockdown.

"All the States are going for shut down one after the other. Andhra Pradesh is also taking a similar decision. The centre is also advising on Coronavirus measures. Youth can be carriers, so we have to protect the elderly," he said.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that "We have already asked for the closure of certain establishments like bars, resorts, swimming pools till March 31. Now the lockdown will be total except for essential services."

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has already announced a total lockdown.
