Visakhapatnam: Ahead of Janta Curfew, people have swarmed liquor vends and meat counters to replenish their stocks in Vizag city.

On Saturday, serpentine queues were seen outside liquor and meat counters in Vizag city. Since liquor shops would also remain closed on Sunday, booze lovers were queuing up at liquor shops to replenish their stocks.

After doctors debunked the rumors about coronavirus in chicken, people have begun consuming meat in full steam. It was evident from the rush seen at the meat market in the city.

Some youngsters are also planning to hold parties at their homes on Sunday. “We want to stay at home. But, staying alone would be boring. So, we are planning to make special non-vegetarian dishes and enjoy with friends. This would also help to beat the panic created due to the virus,” said some college students.

However, many were stocking grocery and essential items, apprehending the government may order total lockdown if the situation worsens. Other states have already initiated a lockdown.

PM Modi stressed the need to avoid panic buying and assured that the government was taking all steps to ensure that the supply of essential commodities was not disrupted.

Meanwhile, the deserted roads in the city again witnessed hustle-bustle with the people ignoring the instructions to remain indoors.
