Madhapur police arrests local man for sexually assaulting pregnant techie

Hyderabad: Despite the passage of time, Hyderabadis are yet to come out of the memories of the horrific rape and murder of veterinarian Disha in November 2019. This is mainly because the systemic factors that contributed to the whole situation remains unsolved. Meanwhile, another incident in Hyderabad’s IT corridor has raised concerns on woman safety.

On Saturday, January 4, night, the Madhapur main road witnessed a man assaulting a pregnant female techie. The latter retaliated and tried to catch him. The accused, Chandrakanth, attacked the woman in a bid to escape, but with the help of passersby, the woman managed to get hold of him and alerted the police. Patrolling teams rushed to the spot and caught the accused.

According to police, the 27-year-old victim was working a night shift on Saturday. During a break, she, alongside her colleagues, went out, had dinner, and they were returning to the office on foot. The victim was on the footpath, ambling, a few steps behind her colleagues, and talking on the phone. The accused approached her from the opposite direction, touched her inappropriately on the upper portion of her front body and tried to run away.

As she became alert and tried to catch him, he attacked her to get free. She raised the alarm, alerting passersby who came to her rescue and caught him. The victim immediately called the police and informed them of the issue. Madhapur patrolling teams rushed to the spot and detained the accused.

Inquiries revealed that the accused Chandrakanth is a resident of Madhapur. He was previously working in the USA and recently returned to the city. Madhapur police registered harassment and assault case against Chandrakanth and arrested him.
