Man arrested for raping 26-year-old married daughter in Vizianagaram

Vizianagaram: A 56-year-old man who allegedly raped his 26-year-old married daughter multiple times in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh was arrested on 12 July. The victim lodged a complaint late on Saturday following which the Seethanagaram police arrested the man on Sunday.

The man lives in a small village under the Seethanagaram mandal in Vizianagaram. According to the police, he has two daughters. The eldest daughter, the victim, got married a decade ago and has been living with her husband in Odisha. Her father sexually harassed her even before her marriage, the cops said.

Four months ago, the man informed the victim that her mother had passed away. When she came home she realised it was a lie. She decided to return to Odisha but was allegedly prevented from doing so. The father had threatened her and raped her. He raped her multiple times in the past three months, the police said.

He also threatened her of dire consequences if she told her mother or sister of the incident. Frightened by the threats, she kept silent. However, unable to bear the torture anymore she told a few people about the incident, who then alerted the police.

The police have registered a case against the accused and arrested him. The man was produced before the court and has been remanded.
