Man beheads son-in-law in East Godavari, takes severed head to police station

East Godavari: A man beheaded his son-in-law with an axe at Dhara Jagannadhapuram village under Routulapudi Mandal in East Godavari district on 9 August. The 30-year-old victim, Ch. Lachhanna, reportedly wanted to marry the accused P. Satyanarayana's youngest daughter.

Lachhanna had married Satyanarayana’s eldest daughter some years ago. However, a few months ago she had died under suspicious circumstances. There had been a dispute between Lachhanna and his father-in-law over her death. Lachhanna had also expressed a wish to marry Satyanarayana’s youngest daughter.

Satyanarayana suspected his son-in-law's hand in the death of his daughter and was unwilling to give his youngest daughter to him in marriage. On Sunday, he attacked Lachhanna with an axe and beheaded him. He then put the man's head in a bag and took it to the police station where he surrendered.

The police have registered a case and an investigation is underway. Lachhanna's body has been taken to a government hospital for post-mortem. According to the police, a drunk Lachhanna had told Satyanarayana that he was responsible for the death of his wife.
