Man held for posting defamatory content against KCR on Facebook

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police arrested a 24-year-old man on 12 June for posting defamatory content against Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao on Facebook. Chinnam Balachander, who runs the Facebook page ‘Spirit of Telangana’, allegedly posted “defamatory images and comments" about the CM and other TRS leaders.

On 10 June, Balachander had edited KCR's image and posted them on Facebook, along with “abusive and derogatory comments”. A case was registered in the cyber crimes police station and he was booked under Section 501 (defamatory content), 504 (intent to provoke), and 505 (public mischief) of the IPC, and Section 67 of the IT Act.

The police further warned netizens not to resort to practices of spreading viral, derogatory, objectionable videos/postings defaming the Government or individuals who are part of the Government. "If in case they resort to such activities on social media they will have to face severe consequences as per the law," Rachakonda police stated.

Balachander is a resident of Uppal and works as a supervisor at a Bajaj showroom, the police said.
